Event Details

"Van Gogh’s Cypresses" is the first exhibition to focus on the trees that Vincent van Gogh (1853–1890) immortalized through his paintings. The Metropolitan Museum of Art will showcase Wheat Field with Cypresses and The Starry Night (MoMA), two centerpieces in an exhibition that includes 40 works to illuminate the extent of the Dutch artist’s fascination with Southern France’s distinctive flame-like evergreens. The MET will exhibit landmark paintings beside preliminary drawings and illustrated letters, many rarely, if ever, lent or exhibited together. Professor Thomas Germano will present a visual lecture about Van Gogh and this very specialized look at his revered motif, The Cypresses.
