Georgia O’Keeffe (1887-1986) once wrote, “To see takes time.” Best known for her flower paintings, O’Keeffe also made an extraordinary series of preliminary multi-media drawings. Throughout a long and prolific career, O’Keeffe revisited and reworked the same subjects, developing, repeating, and transforming motifs that bridge observation and abstraction. O’Keeffe’s many images captured not only nature’s forms but its rhythms.
The MoMA’s exhibition (April 9-August 12, 2023) offers a rare glimpse of the artist’s working methods and invites us to take time to look.
Professor Thomas Germano will conduct a visual lecture about the artist and her work in the MoMA exhibition.
