Event Details

More than any composer/lyricist of his generation, Stephen Sondheim defined, expanded and reinvented the American Musical as we now view it. This talk will begin with a discussion of the works of Sondheim with other composers, including West Side Story, Gypsy, and Do I Hear a Waltz. We will then begin to examine the works that define his genius as both lyricist and composer with A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum and Anyone Can Whistle, Sondheim’s work for television, Evening Primrose, and his songs for films. This talk will feature audio and video to celebrate the earlier works of a giant of Musical Theater.
