In 2014 an inquisitive freelance writer asked Holly Gordon if she knew Northport watercolorist Ward Hooper. That question set into motion what would grow into a tender friendship, an amazing collaboration and the discovery that Holly and Ward were inadvertently following the same path as the early 20th century American abstract artist duo, Arthur Dove and Helen Torr. The possibility that this collaboration might be larger than themselves and the publics’ response to their debut exhibition and gallery talk in 2015 initiated impetus for this book. A proposal by renowned book designer, Bonnie Briant grew into Parallel Perspectives: The Brush/Lens Collaboration launched by Simon & Schuster in October 2020. In July 2022, Holly was invited to share their journey at the Arthur Dove Gallery in Geneva, NY and she will share this real-life fairy tale with us at the Plainview-Old Bethpage Library as she kicks off our It Begins with a Book series of author talks and presentations.
