Program Description

Event Details

All ages.  Do you have old crayons from school, your home, or simply from eating out at a restaurant?  Become a crayon collector for the Plainview-Old Bethpage Public Library and The Crayon Initiative.  The Crayon Initiative recycles old crayons into new, strong and durable, three-sided crayons that will be sent to over 240 pediatric hospitals, including those on Long Island.  By taking part in this program you will help children of all ages and you will help to keep crayons out of our landfills.

How to Participate:

  1. Gather old crayons in a resealable plastic snack, quart, or gallon size bag.  Please ask the adults in your family for permission before you donate.  (Do not worry, the library will be reusing the resealable plastic bags too.)
  2. Simply bring in your old, well-loved, crayons to the Family Center collection box.
  3. Please let a Family Center staff member know that you are making a donation.

Participants of all ages are able to donate.  Students entering grades 5-12 can earn up to 2 hours of community service credit for collecting and donating 1 bag of crayons.
