Event Details
Known for her powerful voice, lyrical tone, and stunning vocal pyrotechnics, Marilyn Horne honed her art after beginning lessons at the age of five. At the peak of her remarkable career, Horne was called “probably the greatest singer in the world.” She is, without a doubt, one of the finest mezzo-sopranos in opera history and one of the greatest interpreters of Rossini in modern times. Her career spanned over 40 years, and her contributions to the opera world live on through her numerous recordings. In retirement, she actively oversaw the Marilyn Horne Foundation, helping to support young singers. A survivor of pancreatic cancer, she has received the Kennedy Center Honors and the National Medal of Arts, and was named the Metropolitan Opera’s first official Legend.
