The Anxious Eye: German Expressionism and Its Legacy presents the work of early 20th-century artists and demonstrates their continuing impact a century later. Important prints and drawings by German expressionists interpreted the dramatic changes in the world around them during the historical upheaval of the Great War, crumbling empires, and multiple revolutions. Professor Thomas Germano will discuss German Expressionism, and the artists who produced it in the context of the history that inspired it. These works will be on view through July 2024 at the National Gallery in Washington DC.
